Two first-half goals were enough for Barnsley to claim the Yorkshire bragging rights as they attained a 2-1 victory over Leeds United.
Despite an early goal in the second half from the home side they were unable to break down the Tykes' defence even when they were reduced to ten men late on.
Former Bolton forward Ricardo Vaz Te gave Barnsley the lead midway through the opening period when his shot bounced into the ground and looped over Alex McCarthy.
The lead was doubled two minutes before the break when McCarthy parried a long-range effort with Craig Davies pouncing on the loose rebound.
Striker Ross McCormack pulled a goal back in the 55th minute with a deft free kick from the edge of the area.
The visitors were reduced to ten men when David Perkins picked up his second yellow card but Leeds were unable to capitalise and snatch a draw.
Keith Hill's side remain 15th despite the win while Leeds retain their place in the play-offs.
