Jamie Vardy to undergo minor surgery

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy could miss up to two weeks in order to undergo minor surgery on his groin.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy is expected to miss up to two weeks in order to have minor surgery.

The England international is the Premier League's joint-top scorer having netted 15 times in his opening 20 games to help Leicester to the top of the table.

That form includes a record-breaking streak of 11 straight games in which the 28-year-old found the back of the net, surpassing Ruud van Nistelrooy in the Premier League history books.

However, BBC Sport reports that Vardy will now miss up to a fortnight in order to undergo surgery on a minor groin injury.

The Foxes have failed to score in each of their last three matches having found the back of the net in each of their first 20 games of the season in all competitions.

That three-game winless run has seen Claudio Ranieri's side fall two points behind Arsenal in the title race, with Manchester City now just one point further back.

Vardy could miss three games during his absence, with Leicester taking on Tottenham Hotspur in both the FA Cup and the Premier League before facing Aston Villa on January 16.
