Jurgen Klopp "not worried" about losing Steven Gerrard to Rangers

Jurgen Klopp insists that Steven Gerrard will forever be a Liverpool legend, amid reports that the former midfielder is to quit his coaching role and join Rangers.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that Steven Gerrard will have the full support of the club if he takes up the offer to become the next Rangers manager.

The Gers are rumoured to be increasingly confident of poaching the 37-year-old from the Reds' coaching staff, where he is currently tasked with overlooking activity at Under-18s level.

Gerrard has turned down other positions in the past to instead continue his post-playing development at Anfield, but Klopp acknowledges that the Liverpool great may soon move on to further his managerial career.

"I am not worried. Because if - a big if - something happens, the club was always clear that Steven was, is, and will ever, be a Liverpool legend," he told reporters at Friday's press conference.

"So whatever he wants to do, we support him in that, it is as easy as that. I don't know the situation at the moment and no one told me anything about it.

"I can imagine clubs are interested in signing Stevie; he has massive experience as a player, and I would think about him as well if I owned a club.

"One day it will happen, either here or somewhere else. It is his decision and he is old enough to decide things like that. The only thing I can say is we will support him in all directions."

Gerrard is said to have held initial talks with Rangers earlier this week and is keen to get Gary McAllister on board as his assistant manager.
