Michael Laudrup is believed to be among the contenders for the vacant manager's job at Liverpool.

Former Barcelona and Real Madrid star Michael Laudrup is understood to be among the contenders for the vacant manager's job at Liverpool.

The Reds have begun their search to find a replacement for Kenny Dalglish and are believed to have shortlisted 12 candidates.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has already been given permission to talk to Anfield chiefs, while Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers has reportedly rejected the opportunity to discuss the position.

Laudrup has a reputation for promoting attacking football and is widely considered as one of Europe's most promising young managers, following his achievements with Brondby and Getafe.

Liverpool owner John W Henry is aware of the Dane's CV and is keen to speak to him, according to Sky Sports News.

Laudrup would be available without compensation following his resignation from Real Mallorca in September.
