Brendan Rodgers backs Danny Ings to shine at Old Trafford

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes that Danny Ings will provide Manchester United with a real threat in this evening's meeting between the two sides.

Brendan Rodgers has insisted that he has no concerns over handing Danny Ings his first Liverpool start for the trip to Old Trafford.

The England hopeful has been brought into the first-team fold for this evening's match against Manchester United in place of the suspended Philippe Coutinho.

Reds boss Rodgers is now hoping that Ings can replicate his performance of last season when scoring for former side Burnley at the Theatre of Dreams.

Speaking to the club's official website prior to naming his starting lineup, the Ulsterman said: "Danny scored there last year, and he's been a real bright spark since he came in. He knows he's going to need time for him to come in and adapt to the club.

"But I would have no qualms if I wanted to play him to pick him in the team, because he's a threat to the goal, he presses really well, he works hard and in and around the 18-yard box he has got the quality to score a goal. So I would have no hesitation of playing him if I felt that he could come into the team."

Ings has played just 30 minutes of competitive action for Liverpool since joining in the summer.
