Suso explains Spain absence

A groin injury prevents Almeria's Suso from joining up with the Spain Under-21 squad.

On-loan Almeria winger Suso has revealed that a groin injury has prevented him from joining up with the Spain Under-21 squad.

The 19-year-old, who is on loan at Almeria from Liverpool, was forced to withdraw from Julen Lopetegui's squad this week due to the complaint.

"Lopetegui spoke to me before the squad was announced, I was overloaded and had discomfort in the groin and told him," Suso told reporters at a press conference.

"And he told me not to worry about the qualifiers, that there were more colleagues eager to go. I also wanted to go, but was injured and I could have recovered with them, but there was no need for that."

Almeria have won their last three league games.
