Steven Gerrard 'will not return to Liverpool in playing capacity'

Los Angeles Galaxy will reportedly block any attempt to bring Steven Gerrard back to Liverpool in a playing capacity.

Los Angeles Galaxy will reportedly block any attempt to bring Steven Gerrard back to Liverpool in a playing capacity.

It was recently reported that the midfielder could train with the Reds before the new Major League Soccer season kicks off in January but, according to The Mirror, any agreement will not include featuring in matches.

Gerrard is said to have held phone conversations with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp about training with his former club during a temporary return to Merseyside.

The ex-England captain is expected to lend his expertise at the Reds' Melwood training base before jetting back to Los Angeles for pre-season preparations on January 15.
