Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard poised for Liverpool return?

Former Liverpool star Steven Gerrard is linked with a surprise return to the club.

Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard has been linked with a return to former club Liverpool.

The ex-England captain has held phone conversations with Red boss Jurgen Klopp about returning to Anfield in some capacity now that the Major League Soccer season is over, according to The Independent.

Gerrard, who is expected to arrive in Merseyside this week, is said to be hoping to train with Liverpool until January 15 when he is due back at Galaxy for pre-season preparations.

The report suggests that there is a possibility of the clubs reaching an agreement that will enable Gerrard to play for the Reds between now and then.

However, Galaxy are said to be opposed to a formal loan agreement and will demand a transfer fee if the midfielder were to rejoin the Premier League outfit.

Gerrard recently admitted that next season could be the last of his playing career.
