Kolo Toure "happy to stay" at Liverpool

Liverpool centre-back Kolo Toure says that he is "happy to stay" at the club beyond the end of the season as long as he can continue to contribute to the team.

Liverpool defender Kolo Toure has said that he is "happy to stay" at the club beyond the end of the season, but only if he is able to offer something to the team.

The 35-year-old's current deal runs out this summer, but manager Jurgen Klopp described the Ivorian as a "very, very important player" ahead of Saturday's 2-2 draw with Newcastle United.

Toure admitted that he was happy to hear such praise, but insists that he will only stay at the club should he be able to contribute.

"It's great to hear that from a great manager," he told BBC Sport.

"As long as I can bring something [to the team] I'm happy to stay but if I can't, there is no point."

Liverpool could be in line to lose fellow centre-back Mamadou Sakho to a ban after the Frenchman failed a drugs test.
