Granit Xhaka is to be watched by Liverpool scouts after the Basel midfielder emerged as a target for the Premier League side.

Liverpool have identified FC Basel's Granit Xhaka as a summer transfer target, according to reports.

Xhaka has impressed for Basel during their Champions League campaign and Liverpool's director of football Damien Commoli has received positive reports from the Reds scouting team.

Representatives of the Merseyside club were rumoured to have been present as Xhaka helped Basel to a 1-0 win over Bayern Munich last week and the scouts are also expected to watch the midfielder during Switzerland's friendly with Argentina this week.

Despite the interest from Kenny Dalglish's side, German club Hamburg are currently favourites to secure a deal for the 19-year-old.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked with a move for Xhaka.
