Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has said that Nigel de Jong would be a good addition, should he join the club from AC Milan.
The Reds have been linked with a move for the 29-year-old Holland international after Lucas was ruled out for two months with a knee ligament injury.
"He is a good player and produced many good performances at Manchester City," Lucas told ESPN Brazil.
"If he comes it will be good for the squad because it's important to have a strong squad.
"I believe that if anyone comes who plays in my position it will not be because of my injury but rather to strengthen the squad."
De Jong spent three years with Manchester City before joining Milan in August 2012.
