Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon reportedly 'could go on strike' if the Magpies refuse to allow him to move to Liverpool this summer.

Newcastle United attacker Anthony Gordon 'could go on strike' if the Magpies refuse to allow him to move to Liverpool this summer, according to a report.

Liverpool reportedly made a move for the England international during Euro 2024 but backed off when Newcastle requested Jarell Quansah to be included in the deal.

Gordon emerged as a target for the Reds after an impressive season at St James' Park, where he scored 11 goals and provided 10 assists in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old's stellar form earned him a spot in Gareth Southgate's Euros squad, though he only played five minutes in Germany, coming on as a late substitute in the goalless draw with Slovenia.

Newcastle shelled out around £45m to sign Gordon from Everton in January 2023, and his current contract with the Magpies runs until the summer of 2026.

Gordon to 'down tools' to force Liverpool move?

According to Football Insider, the Reds continue to hold "concrete and active" interest in signing Gordon and claim that the 23-year-old could go on strike to secure a move to Anfield this month.

Despite his previous affiliation with Everton, Gordon is a lifelong Liverpool fan and previously expressed that it is a dream of his to one day play for the Reds.

The England international was a part of Liverpool's academy as a youngster but was released when he was just 11 years old.

The report adds that Gordon is keen to join Liverpool, but Newcastle are equally determined to retain him and are prepared to offer him a new and improved contract to keep him on Tyneside.

Should Gordon end up leaving the Magpies, it would be a significant setback for Eddie Howe's side, especially given that he won the club's Player of the Season award for the 2023-24 campaign.

Quiet summer at Anfield so far

It has been a quiet summer at Anfield, with Arne Slot's side being the only Premier League outfit that are yet to make a signing in this transfer window.

If Liverpool were to complete a move for Gordon, it would come at a cost, as the Magpies are looking to secure a substantial profit from his potential sale.

It is understood that Howe's side have placed a £75m valuation on the 23-year-old, which could rise to £100m with add-ons.

When asked about the Reds' lack of transfer business while on their pre-season tour of the USA, Slot said: "The first aim is to work with these players. The disadvantage is that many of them aren't here yet. The positive is that it gives us time to take a good look at the youngsters.

"There is an important line at the club that young players come through. Our standards are really high when it comes to bringing in new players. Of course, Richard (Hughes) and I are trying to improve the squad where possible."
