Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has reportedly targeted a January move for Emerson Palmieri once the Roma left-back returns from a lengthy layoff.
The 23-year-old is on the brink of a comeback to competitive action after working his way back to full fitness, six months after damaging his anterior cruciate ligament.
Palmieri is said to have originally been on Klopp's radar towards the tail end of last season, with one eye on a summer transfer, but the injury put paid to any hopes of landing the Italian defender.
According to Gazzamercato, however, the Reds could be about to renew their interest as they are desperate to bring in cover at the back for the second half of the campaign.
Liverpool have already leaked 16 goals in their first nine Premier League games, giving them the sixth-worst record in the division, and are seemingly already out of the title race.
The report suggests that the Merseyside outfit are willing to hand over £22m for Palmieri, whom they hope to lure with a four-and-a-half-year contract.
