Former Liverpool midfielder wants the club to keep hold of goalkeeper Pepe Reina.

Liverpool legend Tommy Smith believes that the club should not be looking to sell Pepe Reina.

The Reds were linked with Swansea City goalkeeper Michel Vorm earlier this week, while the future of Reina has been subject to speculation for the majority of the season.

However, Smith thinks that allowing the Spanish goalkeeper to leave would be a mistake and believes that the former Villarreal man is still one of the finest keepers around.

"Personally I hope [Liverpool manager] Brendan Rodgers sticks with Pepe Reina," Smith wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

"If Liverpool are going to bring in another keeper then they have to make sure he's better than Reina, but I don't think there are many better.

"The fact that Manchester United and Arsenal have been after Reina in the past merely emphasises the fact we're lucky to have him."

Reina signed for Liverpool in 2005.
