A heavily-rotated Manchester City side came from behind to comfortably see off Sevilla 3-1 in their final Champions League group stage match.

Rico Lewis will grab the headlines as he scored on his full debut for the club, with the 17-year-old full-back thundering home an excellent equaliser early in the second half.

Julian Alvarez also impressed as he filled the boots of the injured Erling Braut Haaland, getting on the scoresheet and laying on two more.

Pep Guardiola's side were already safely through as group winners following their draw at Borussia Dortmund last week, and made seven changes to the starting XI from the win over Leicester at the weekend.

That allowed Guardiola to give players such as Kevin De Bruyne, Joao Cancelo, Ederson and Bernardo Silva a rest as they face a busy schedule before the World Cup break, with Fulham, Chelsea and Brentford all to come in the space of seven days.

Like City, Sevilla also made seven changes knowing that their fate was already determined too, as the Andalucian side will drop into their favoured Europa League in the New Year.

City had scored just four goals in their previous five matches, and were without 22-goal Haaland once again after he picked up an injury in Germany last Tuesday.

Alvarez stepped in and took the opportunity with both hands though, coolly slotting Lewis in for his goal, and he then latched on to a sublime through ball from substitute De Bruyne before smartly finishing from a tight angle.

After some intense pressuring on defender Jose Angel Carmona, Alvarez wrestled possession back and set up Riyad Mahrez who confidently buried the chance in the top corner to seal the three points for Man City.

The second half performance was much more impressive from the Premier League champions, as City sleepwalked into a 1-0 deficit at the break thanks to a Rafa Mir header after the ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers man was given the freedom of the penalty area to head home from an Isco corner.

The half time substitution which saw Rodri replace Jack Grealish helped Guardiola's side get a much stronger grip on the game, and it was telling, as City scored three unanswered goals in the second 45.

This result means Man City remained unbeaten throughout the group stage, finishing a very comfortable five points clear of Borussia Dortmund in second.

They can now turn their attentions back to retaining their Premier League crown before and after the World Cup break until February, and that starts on Saturday with the visit of Fulham to the Etihad.

Sevilla will now drop into the Europa League, a competition they have won six times, all within the last 16 years, and will go into the knockout stages as one of the favourites to go all the way given their recent pedigree.

They need to get themselves out of trouble in La Liga first though, as a woeful start has seen them drop into the relegation zone going into their clash with Real Betis at the weekend.
