A strike from Sergio Aguero has given Manchester City a 1-0 lead over West Ham United at half time at the Etihad Stadium.
Jussi Jaaskelainen had to make two early stops for the visitors as Roberto Mancini's side made a lively start to the match, with Carlos Tevez taking the shots.
Aguero almost broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute with a half-volley from eight yards out, but his strike bounced back off the post.
However, the Argentinian made amends five minutes later, after Samir Nasri and David Silva linked up to play the ball through to Aguero to tap in from close range.
Nasri almost doubled the home side's advantage moments later, but Jaaskelainen palmed his shot away, before Pablo Zabaleta's follow-up was blocked.
The hosts had little to do at the back in the opening 45 minutes, with the Hammers creating few chances.
