Barcelona are reportedly in a strong position to sign Manchester City talisman Sergio Aguero, who will leave the Etihad Stadium when his contract expires this summer.

Barcelona have reportedly been given the green light to make a move for Manchester City's Sergio Aguero, who has confirmed he will be leaving the Etihad Stadium at the end of this season.

The 32-year-old has made 18 appearances for Pep Guardiola's side this season, and his manager has opted to play in a formation without a recognised traditional number nine for the majority of this campaign.

Aguero is Man City's all-time leading goalscorer having netted 258 times since his arrival in England in 2011, but he confirmed in March that he would leave the club when his contract expires in the summer.

According to the Daily Mail, Barcelona are strong candidates to gain the striker's signature, with Aguero believed to be keen to join up with international teammate Lionel Messi in Catalonia.

The report suggests that the Argentine is willing to take a pay cut to ensure Barca can fund his arrival, which may convince Messi to also sign a new deal at the Nou Camp.

Aguero has made 388 appearances for Man City since his arrival in 2011 and has won five Premier League titles during his spell at the club.
