Celtic may yet secure the loan signing of John Guidetti after the Scottish Football Association announced that it will appeal to FIFA to try to get the moved ratified.
A deal to bring the Manchester City striker, who spent the second half of last term with Stoke City, to Parkhead for the season was in place on Monday, but did not go through before the 11pm transfer deadline.
A Scottish FA spokesman said: "We will be contacting FIFA on Celtic's behalf to request an "exception" in order for the transfer to be concluded."
Radamel Falcao's move to Manchester United, Danny Welbeck's switch to Arsenal and Tom Cleverley's loan to Aston Villa were all allowed to be completed hours past the deadline of the summer window.
One-cap Swedish international Guidetti would have to be registered with UEFA before the end of Tuesday in order for him to be eligible for the group stages of Celtic's Europa League campaign.
