Tim Sherwood: 'Jack Grealish, Carles Gil unlikely to return for Friday fixture'

Tim Sherwood reveals that Jack Grealish and Carles Gil are unlikely to take any part in Aston Villa's Friday night fixture against Manchester United.

Tim Sherwood has revealed that midfield duo Jack Grealish and Carles Gil are unlikely to play any part in Friday's home fixture against Manchester United.

The pair were not part of Aston Villa's Premier League opener against Bournemouth after both players picked up injuries in pre-season friendlies.

"Jack and Carles are still out injured. Once we get everyone fit and fighting for places, it gives us a lot of options to play different ways, which will be crucial," Sherwood told the club's official website.

"Jack and Carles are training. They have had a few training sessions, but we don't want to push them back too early because they've had soft tissue injuries.

"We don't want them to reoccur."

Sherwood kicked off his season with three points as Rudy Gestede scored the winner against the Cherries on Saturday afternoon.
