Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has said that he was "proud" to wear the captain's armband in his side's 3-0 League Cup third-round victory over Ipswich Town.
The Spain goalkeeper saw a deadline-day move to Real Madrid collapse, but has since regained his place in the side and signed a new four-year deal with the Red Devils.
To complete a remarkable turnaround of events, Bastian Schweinsteiger gave De Gea the captain's armband after Wayne Rooney had gone off in last night's triumph, and the goalkeeper took to Twitter to express his delight.
Great win yesterday! Let's think about our next rivals and keep improving. I'm proud to wear this armband! #MUFC pic.twitter.com/gduqspyh4a
