Rio Ferdinand: 'Jamie Vardy should target Daley Blind'

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes that Leicester City boss Claudio Ranieri should instruct Jamie Vardy to target Daley Blind when the sides meet on Saturday.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has stated that Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy should target United centre-half Daley Blind when the sides meet at the King Power Stadium on Saturday evening.

The Red Devils legend believes that Foxes manager Claudio Ranieri should instruct the England striker to target the Holland defender during the encounter.

"If I was Claudio Ranieri I would be telling Vardy to run at Daley Blind from the word go. Don't get me wrong, Blind is a good player but he lacks pace," Ferdinand told The Sun.

"So did I towards the end of my career, so I had to either get tight on a quick attacker or drop deep to leave no room behind me. If I got tight then I would have to rely on my centre-back partner to cover behind me, if the striker turned me and got away.

"This is something Chris Smalling is going to have to do and it is a big game for him. He will have to stay composed because what Vardy does is create nervousness."

United midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin stated this week that the team want to end Vardy's scoring run, as the Foxes forward looks to net in his 11th straight Premier League fixture.
