Arsenal defender David Luiz says that the club will achieve big things under their new manager Mikel Arteta.

Arsenal defender David Luiz has said that the club will achieve big things under their new manager Mikel Arteta.

The 37-year-old replaced Unai Emery in the Emirates Stadium dugout last month and he got his first win as Gunners boss on Wednesday as Arsenal defeated Manchester United 2-0.

It was a first win in seven home games for the North London club, and a result that took them back into the top half of the table.

Brazilian defender Luiz stated how impressed he has been by the former Manchester City assistant after the game, telling reporters: "I believe he can improve every player.

"Mikel is a great coach and knows football. He was a great player, he brings things and I believe in his philosophy.

"We are going to do big things in the future, but step by step."

Arsenal host Leeds United on Monday night in the FA Cup before they travel to take on Roy Hodgson's Crystal Palace on January 11.
