Nemanja Matic has backed Manchester United teammate Romelu Lukaku to find his scoring touch this season after getting off the mark with his first competitive goal.
The Belgium international found the back of the net in the Red Devils' 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday night, shortly after missing what was essentially an open goal.
Fellow summer signing Matic was pleased to see Lukaku put the miss behind him to officially get up and running in a United shirt, insisting that the ex-Everton ace has what it takes to be a goalscoring hit at Old Trafford.
"It's very important for us that our strikers score goals," he told MUTV. "It's very important for confidence. As you know he missed a very good chance but this can happen – it's football.
"But I am happy for him that he scored a goal after that and I'm sure that he will continue to score goals and that he will score many this season."
Matic and Lukaku were two of three debutants on show at the Phillips II Arena, along with centre-back Victor Lindelof.
