Rene Meulensteen urges Manchester United fans to be patient with Louis van Gaal

Rene Meulensteen believes that Louis van Gaal will take time to bring success back to Manchester United.

Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has called on supporters not to get ahead of themselves before the start of the Premier League season under new manager Louis van Gaal.

The Dutchman has acquired the signatures of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera, while the likes of Arturo Vidal, Angel di Maria and Mats Hummels have been linked with moves to Old Trafford.

After United finished seventh last season under former manager David Moyes, Meulensteen believes that Van Gaal will need time to build a new team.

"Not only will the players will have to buy into his philosophy, people must realise the process will take time," Meulensteen told talkSPORT.

"At this moment he has to build a new team because United are still a team that can be beaten, unless proven otherwise at the start of the new Premier League season."

Van Gaal has taken up his post at United after guiding the Netherlands to the World Cup semi-finals in Brazil.
