David de Gea could receive €10m (£7.4m) from Real Madrid as compensation for his transfer from Manchester United failing to be completed on deadline day, according to a Spanish report.
De Gea was on the verge of completing a move to the La Liga giants on Tuesday before the deal broke down amid reports of Real submitting the paperwork too late.
Although the Spanish club have since denied that they were at fault for the transfer breaking down, Madrid-based newspaper AS claims that they had agreed to pay the goalkeeper €10m compensation if they fell short in their efforts to bring him to the Bernabeu.
De Gea will now have to compete with fellow goalkeeping exile Victor Valdes, who reportedly pulled out of a move to Besiktas earlier this week, and current first choice Sergio Romero for the number one spot at Old Trafford.
