Report: Jose Mourinho wants Rio Ferdinand as Manchester United coach

A report claims that new Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho wants Rio Ferdinand to become a first-team coach at Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand to form part of his coaching staff at Old Trafford for the 2016-17 campaign.

Ferdinand enjoyed a glittering career with Man United between 2002 and 2014, before hanging up his boots in 2015 after a forgettable spell at Queens Park Rangers.

Since retirement, the 37-year-old has worked as a television pundit, but according to The Sun, Mourinho is keen for the former England captain to form part of his new backroom staff.

It is understood that Ferdinand, who is currently taking his coaching badges, is aware of the interest and will consider his future over the next week.
