Wayne Rooney has claimed that Steven Gerrard is the 'perfect choice' to become the new England captain.
John Terry was stripped of the captaincy last week and a permanent replacement may not be named until a new England manager is named.
Despite Rooney revealing that he would like to be captain, the Manchester United striker admitted that he thinks Gerrard is the best option.
Rooney said on Twitter: "For everyone asking i would love to be england captain. But thats up to new manager to decide. Gerrard is perfect choice for me."
Gerrard is currently one of the favourites to become captain, and the midfielder currently holds the same responsibility at Liverpool.
