Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has said that he intends his keep his current squad number, despite the No. 9 being available next season.
The Dutchman wears No. 20 in his debut campaign with United and has scored 25 goals to help the club become Premier League champions.
Despite the traditional No. 9 now being available following Dimitar Berbatov's move from the club, the forward has said that he intends to snub the offer and retain his current squad number.
"I have the option to take number nine but I don't think I will do that. I'll stick with what is right and what feels good," he told United Review.
"Also, I don't want to be harsh on the fans who have got number 20 on their kit. I don't want them to have to buy a new shirt.
"It's been a good number for me and now I can at least celebrate the 20th trophy for another year. I'll stick with it."
Van Persie was signed from Arsenal for a reported £25m last summer.
