Bastian Schweinsteiger included in Manchester United's Premier League squad

Bastian Schweinsteiger is handed a reprieve of sorts by Jose Mourinho as he is named in Manchester United's 25-man Premier League squad for the first half of the season.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has been included by manager Jose Mourinho in Manchester United's 25-man Premier League playing squad.

The 32-year-old, who this week called time on his international career with Germany, was recently told that he was unlikely to feature again for the Red Devils.

Schweinsteiger has been made to train with United's Under-23s side since Mourinho took charge in the summer, but reportedly rejected the chance of a move away to Sporting Lisbon earlier this week to instead fight for his place at Old Trafford.

Despite Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini, Morgan Schneiderlin, Ander Herrera and Michael Carrick all being ahead of the experienced midfielder in United's pecking order, Schweinsteiger has been given a reprieve of sorts having been named in the club's Premier League squad.

Phil Jones and Sergio Romero, two other players linked with moves away during the summer transfer window, are also included, while young right-back Sadiq El Fitouri is a surprise inclusion.

Manchester United squad in full:

Eric Bailly, Daley Blind, Michael Carrick, Matteo Darmian, David De Gea, Memphis Depay, Sadiq El Fitouri, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sam Johnstone, Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Paul Pogba, Marcos Rojo, Sergio Romero, Wayne Rooney, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Chris Smalling, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young
