Toby Alderweireld's agent reportedly met with Roma officials on Thursday to begin talks on a possible transfer for the Tottenham Hotspur defender.
The Belgian centre-back has been regularly linked with a move away from North London, having been touted as a target for the likes of Manchester United and Juventus over the past 12 months.
Calciomercato claims that Roma have jumped to the front of the queue to sign Alderweireld, however, as his representative Stijn Francis has already started negotiating with the Italian club's sporting director.
Roma chief Gianluca Petrachi is said to be a huge fan of Alderweireld and he is prepared to offer him a £3.14m-a-year deal plus bonuses.
Alderweireld has a £25m release clause in his Tottenham contract, but it has to be triggered in the next two weeks.
