Schalke 04 general manager Horst Heldt confirms that Dutch goal machine Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is free to leave for a fee of £16.25m.

Schalke 04 general manager Horst Heldt has confirmed that striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has a release clause in his contract worth £16.25m.

Huntelaar has been linked with moves to Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Malaga in the past but, despite the clause, Heldt expects the 28-year-old to remain in Gelsenkirchen unless Real Madrid or Barcelona come calling.

He told Bild: "Huntelaar does have a €20m buyout clause and rich clubs can afford it.

"But, Klaas Jan has always stressed that he wants to be a champion. This he can be only with Real or Barcelona in Spain."

Huntelaar scored 29 goals in 32 Bundesliga games last season.
