Manchester United have reportedly been informed by Barcelona that they will have to come up with an offer of £35m in order to open talks with Ivan Rakitic during the January transfer window.
Barca are believed to be open to the idea of the 31-year-old leaving Camp Nou at the start of 2020 as he is currently struggling for regular action at the club.
According to Sport, United have approached the Spanish champions over a potential deal for the Croatia international, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side have been told that the price is £35m.
Rakitic has been a key player for the Catalan giants since arriving from Sevilla in the summer of 2014 but has only started one La Liga match in the early stages of the 2019-20 campaign.
The 2018 World Cup finalist recently hinted that he would look to leave Ernesto Valverde's side in the near future unless his current situation changed.
United, meanwhile, are believed to be in the market for at least one central midfielder having lost the likes of Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera over the last two transfer windows.
