Louis van Gaal: 'Manchester United don't need a striker'

Louis van Gaal suggests that he will not add a striker to his Manchester United squad before the 2015 summer transfer window shuts.

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has reiterated that he does not plan on signing a striker before the transfer window closes on September 1.

The Red Devils drew 0-0 with Newcastle United on Saturday as forward Wayne Rooney drew another blank in front of goal, with Javier Hernandez - whom Van Gaal loaned to Real Madrid last year - and James Wilson the only recognised alternatives.

Asked by Sky Sports News whether or not he will break the bank on recruiting a world-class marksman after the stalemate at Old Trafford, the Dutchman said: "No, because we were three times the best team.

"My worry is that we have to dominate the opponent and we did it today, we did it against Aston Villa, Tottenham and [Club] Brugge.

"I am satisfied with the performance and not with the result and that is different. We were unlucky with rewarding ourselves because we have created a lot of chances."

United have lost two strikers from last season, with Van Gaal electing against a permanent move for Radamel Falcao, while Robin van Persie joined Fenerbahce.
