Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that the club want to keep goalkeeper David de Gea beyond this summer.
The 24-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid in this window, and he was kept out of the team which beat Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the new season.
Van Gaal told BBC Sport: "I'm not the most important part with De Gea. The most important part is the player and the club who wants to buy him. He's our best player for the past two or three years so we cannot let him go so easily.
"We want to sell at the same level as we pay. We want to keep him of course."
United beat Spurs 1-0, with Sergio Romero deputising in goal.
