Marseille 1-0 Inter Milan

An injury-time goal from Andre Ayew gives Marseille a 1-0 win over Inter Milan in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at the Stade Velodrome.

An injury-time goal from Andre Ayew has earned Marseille a 1-0 win over Inter Milan in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie at the Stade Velodrome.

The Italians could have taken the lead in the tenth minute, but striker Diego Forlan could only scoop the ball over from close range following Esteban Cambiasso's cross.

Marseille were inches away from going ahead midway through the half when Souleymane Diawara put the ball wide from an inswinging free kick.

Mauro Zarate could have done better minutes later when his tame shot from 12 yards was easily gathered by the goalkeeper.

Brandao's header was saved by Julio Cesar minutes into the second half, while Jeremy Morel's powerful effort flew narrowly wide.

Dejan Stankovic nearly nicked a late winner for Inter, but his shot from Wesley Sneijder's free kick lacked any power.

Marseille grabbed their winner in the third minute of added time as Ayew bundled his header in from a corner.
