Middlesbrough chairman Steve Gibson has admitted that current caretaker manager Mark Venus could be in the running for the job full-time.
Gibson said that taking control of the team in the short-term will allow Venus to show whether he is capable of leading on a permanent basis.
"Mark will have the chance turn things around," Gibson told BBC Sport. "I have given him all the support and authority that he would have if he was permanent manager and he will now have the chance to put his name forward."
Tony Mowbray was sacked on Monday following the side's poor start to the season.
