Newcastle United announce that defender Dan Burn has extended his contract until 2025.

Newcastle United have announced that defender Dan Burn has extended his contract until 2025.

The 31-year-old, born in Blyth, has established himself as a first-team regular under manager Eddie Howe since joining the club from Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2020.

Burn has made a total of 70 appearances for the Magpies across all competitions and he featured in all 38 Premier League games last season as Howe's side finished fourth to qualify for the Champions League.

The 6ft 7in defender has cemented his place at left-back and was part of a Newcastle defence that conceded just 33 goals in the top-flight last season, the fewest of any team in the division.

Burn has since played in 10 matches this season and scored his first Champions League goal in a memorable 4-1 home victory over Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month.

He was due to see his original deal expire in the summer of 2024, but the defender has decided to commit his future to the club with a one-year extension.

"It means everything to me to play for this club and to sign a new contract," Burn told Newcastle's official website.

"I said when I signed that I didn't want this to be just a 'stop-gap' signing to keep us up - I wanted to be here for a long time.

"So personally it feels even more of an achievement signing this one than it was actually signing here in the first place. I'm delighted and looking forward to the next couple of seasons."

Howe added: "Dan is a leader on and off the pitch so we are delighted he has extended his stay with us.

"He is a key part of our squad and has played a huge role in our progress since his arrival.

"He knows exactly what it means to represent this great club and is hungry to succeed, and that can only help the team and the club going forward."

Burn's new deal comes just under a week after midfielder Bruno Guimaraes extended his contract until the summer of 2028.

The defender is expected to feature in Newcastle's next Premier League game at home against Crystal Palace on October 21.
