Newcastle United will be without winger Anthony Gordon for next Tuesday's Premier League clash at home against his former club Everton.

Fresh from making his senior England debut during the international break, Gordon returned to Newcastle's starting lineup on Saturday and was named Man of the Match as the Magpies came from two goals down to beat West Ham United 4-3 in a thrilling Premier League contest at St James Park.

Gordon was immediately involved in the action as he won a third-minute penalty for the hosts, which was converted by Alexander Isak following a lengthy VAR check.

West Ham responded well, though, as Michail Antonio restored parity before Mohammed Kudus and Jarrod Bowen netted within the space three minutes either side of half time.

In an enthralling and eventful contest that saw Newcastle trio Jamaal Lascelles, Valentino Livramento and Miguel Almiron all withdrawn due to injury, the Magpies admirably snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, netting three goals in the final 13 minutes.

The fightback began when Gordon was again adjudged to have been fouled inside the penalty area, this time by West Ham substitute Kalvin Phillips, and Isak stepped up again to pull one back for the Magpies.

Substitute Harvey Barnes then inspired Newcastle to a remarkable comeback, firstly slipping the ball under the legs of Lukasz Fabianski before firing a wonderful 20-yard strike into the far corner on the 90-minute mark to spark wild scenes in the Gallowgate End.

Newcastle managed to hold on in the 10 minutes of stoppage time, despite being reduced to 10 men as Gordon – who was booked earlier in the contest – was shown a second yellow card for needlessly kicking the ball away.

After receiving the first red card of his career, Gordon will subsequently serve a one-match suspension and miss Newcastle's next Premier League match on Tuesday at home to his boyhood club Everton.

Who could replace Anthony Gordon for Everton clash?

Gordon has enjoyed an impressive breakthrough season at Newcastle this season, contributing with 10 goals and seven assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.

The 23-year-old has primarily played on the left side of a front three for the Magpies this term, and the most likely candidate to replace him next Tuesday is Saturday's super-sub Barnes.

However, Barnes has struggled with injuries throughout this season and has only recently returned from a hamstring problem, so it remains to be seen whether the winger will be fit to start.

Jacob Murphy and Almiron are two other wingers at Eddie Howe's disposal, although both players prefer to operate on the right flank - the latter of whom has also emerged as an injury doubt after coming off with a knee problem against West Ham.

Another player who could replace Gordon is versatile left-flanker Lewis Hall, although with Newcastle's defensive ranks having suffered another concerning injury blow against West Ham, the teenager may be required to play at left-back.

Newcastle have climbed to eighth in the Premier League table, at the time of writing, just one point behind seventh-placed West Ham who have played a game more, and four points behind sixth-placed Manchester United who have a game in hand on the Magpies.
