Newcastle United's Georginio Wijnaldum: 'We have to build on first win'

Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum calls on his side to build on their first win of the season over Norwich City in their derby clash against Sunderland.

Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has insisted that his side have to build on the first win of the Premier League season in their Wear-Tyne derby showdown against Sunderland.

The Dutchman scored four goals for the Magpies to fire them to a 6-2 victory over Norwich City at St James' Park to ease the pressure on manager Steve McClaren.

Wijnaldum is adamant that his side have to use the win as a platform to end their losing streak against their bitter rivals Sunderland, which stretches back five matches.

He is quoted as saying by The Mirror: "We have to do it every week. We have to win a few games in a row. That will be the challenge, not just in 45 minutes or in one game, in a lot of games.

"When I walk down the street or go into the supermarket, Newcastle fans talk to me.

"They talk directly about this game against Sunderland. I have already seen how much impact this game has for supporters. I see what they want from the players, we must try to win this game."

Newcastle are 18th in the Premier League following their victory.
