Arsene Wenger: 'Germany, Netherlands game should have gone ahead'

Arsene Wenger feels that Germany's friendly with the Netherlands should have gone ahead following its cancellation due to terrorism fears.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has claimed that the decision to cancel Tuesday's friendly between Germany and the Netherlands in Hannover was an 'overreaction'.

The contest was cancelled less than two hours before kickoff after the HDI Arena was evacuated following the discovery of a suspicious item.

It came four days after Stade de France was targeted by suicide bombers in Paris as three people lost their lives outside the stadium, but Hannover police confirmed that no explosives were found.

"The danger in this situation is to overreact a little bit and I think that is what happened," Wenger is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

"The way for us is to get on with life and respond in a positive way to the situation.

"You cannot just stop everything. You have to trust politicians to make the right decisions. France is a tolerant society."

The French manager later revealed that he was not far away from one of the other locations targeted by Islamic State in Friday's terror attacks, which resulted in the deaths of 129 people.
