Chris Hughton salutes clinical Gary Hooper

Chris Hughton describes Gary Hooper as "a finisher" after Norwich's £5m summer signing scored twice in their come-from-behind win over Watford in the League Cup.

Chris Hughton has described summer signing Gary Hooper as "a finisher" after Norwich City's £5m man scored twice on his first start for the club to secure them passage into the Capital One Cup last 16.

After Championship outfit Watford took a 2-0 lead at Vicarage Road, the former Celtic striker and Canaries youngster Josh Murphy each netted to force the tie into extra time.

Hooper then added a decisive second in the additional 30 minutes, and Norwich boss Hughton is delighted that the 25-year-old could gain some valuable match time, and have a goalscoring impact.

"He is a finisher," the Norwich boss told reporters. "I'm probably as delighted that he has got 120 minutes under his belt than I am with the goals.

"He is used to scoring but with all strikers it is about the service they get and showing a little bit of quality when they can.

"Both goals showed great movement, a super ball from Leroy Fer for the third. Even in that second half of extra time I was looking at how he was running and he was fine."

Hooper could make his first Premier League start for Norwich when they make the trip to Stoke City on Saturday.
