Queens Park Rangers boss Chris Ramsey: 'Rio Ferdinand will return when he's ready'

Queens Park Rangers boss Chris Ramsey says that Rio Ferdinand will return to the side when "the time is right" following the death of his wife.

Queens Park Rangers manager Chris Ramsey has revealed that Rio Ferdinand will return to the side when he is, ready following the death of his wife Rebecca Ellison.

The 36-year-old's partner, who was the mother to Ferdinand's three children, passed away last week following a short battle with cancer.

"[Ferdinand] is obviously devastated," Ramsey said in this morning's press conference. "Everyone wishes him the best and hopes he can bring his family through it. We aren't going to mention him coming back. He will return when the time is right."

The defender joined QPR last year following a 12-year spell at Manchester United.
