The Scottish Premier League have invited Dundee to take the place of Rangers in the top flight for the coming season.
Newco Rangers had hoped to take their place in the top flight under the ownership of Charles Green. However, the clubs currently in the division voted unanimously against the Gers and they have since been installed in the Third Division.
That opened up a vacancy in the SPL, which Dundee and Dunfermline had been in contention to fill.
Following days of consultation, it has been decided that Dark Blues will return to the top division.
Their first match will be a trip to Kilmarnock on Saturday, August 4.
