A number of Reading players reportedly learned that their manager Brian McDermott had been sacked via text messages.

The 51-year-old was relieved of his duties at the Madejski Stadium earlier today after just over three years at the helm.

Despite the fact that the Royals have only won five matches this season and currently sit 19th in the Premier League standings, it is believed that McDermott still had the full backing of the playing squad.

With that in mind, they were disappointed to have received the news of McDermott's departure by text from a club official, according to Sky Sports News.
