Former Leicester City and Wales midfielder Robbie Savage has described Reading's decision to sack Brian McDermott as "ridiculous".
The Royals opted to part company with the 51-year-old following Saturday's 2-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa, which has left the club second from bottom in the Premier League standings.
With nine matches left to play, a "gutted" Savage has criticised the timing of the McDermott's departure.
"Gutted for Brian McDermott top bloke, timing poor, feel really sorry for him. Quality of squad is not Premier League standard, he done great to put them into a position were they have a chance of staying up, low wage budget," the BBC Sport pundit wrote on Twitter.
"33 days ago he was manager of the month, ridiculous decision to sack him now! Silly sacking in my opinion! Good luck Brian."
McDermott had been named the Premier League's manager of the month for January.
