Holland striker Klass Jan-Huntelaar's contract talks with Schalke have stalled, according to the club.
Huntelaar put the discussions on hold at the end of last season to concentrate on playing for the Dutch at Euro 2012, but has still not signed a new contract.
Schalke general manager Horst Heldt told Sky Sports Germany: "Klaas-Jan knows what he has here at Schalke and we know about his quality. His decision depends on his sporting future.
"We had a talk last weekend and we will have another talk in the next few days and make a decision. Klaas-Jan is a footballer on a high level, but we also have different options."
The 28-year-old was in exceptional form for Schalke last season, netting 29 goals to finish as the Bundesliga's top scorer.
