Sheffield United boss Nigel Clough has confirmed that youngster Diego De Girolamo will leave the club in the summer.
The 19-year-old Italian winger has turned down a contract extension at Bramall Lane.
De Girolamo, who has been linked with a move to Chesterfield, scored four goals in eight games during a loan spell with York City earlier this season.
"His time here will come to an end when his contract ends. He's rejected his contract offer and the chance to stay here," Clough told BBC Sport. "We felt we had offered him a good deal but I think he feels he will get better opportunities elsewhere."
United are entitled to receive compensation from De Girolamo's next club because he was a graduate of their youth system and is under 24.
