Tottenham Hotspur allegedly considered an approach for Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti before eventually appointing Jose Mourinho as Mauricio Pochettino's replacement.
Earlier this week, Mourinho was confirmed as the new Spurs head coach, less than 12 hours after the club announced the departure of Pochettino.
However, according to The Sun, the Premier League outfit had placed Ancelotti on their shortlist earlier in the season.
The report claims that Spurs were unwilling to pay compensation in order to secure the services of the former Chelsea manager.
Nevertheless, it has been said that Mourinho stands to earn twice as much as Pochettino during his time with the North London team.
