Former England Under-21 manager Stuart Pearce has said that Harry Kane should play at the European Under-21 Championships this summer, adding that the Young Lions would benefit from using their strongest available players.
The Tottenham Hotspur striker is in fine form for his club, scoring a brace in their 2-1 win against Queens Park Rangers on Saturday to take his tally for the season to 26 goals in all competitions.
Pearce told BBC Sport: "The message coming out of [Kane's] mouth at the moment is suggesting that he wants to go to the U21 tournament.
"Personally, and I've championed this all along, I think the key to the senior squad being successful is to make sure we win trophies at the younger age group.
"The only way you do that is you take your strongest possible squad to the under-21 and the under-19 tournaments."
Kane has yet to win a full England call-up, but could be named in Roy Hodgson's squad to face Lithuania and Italy later this month.
