Champions League football will persuade Gareth Bale to stay at Tottenham Hotspur, manager Andre Villas-Boas believes.

Andre Villas-Boas believes that Gareth Bale will stay at Tottenham Hotspur should the team qualify for the Champions League.

Speculation regarding the Welshman's future has been rife following another impressive season in North London, with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich all linked with summer bids.

However, when asked if Champions League football would ensure that Bale stays at White Hart Lane, Villas-Boas replied: "I think so. That's the information that I have from the club.

"The club is committed to keeping the best assets. That's the only way that we can ensure that we are in the top four every year. Gareth is part of that project bearing in mind that he has been amazing this season.

"Hopefully, we can develop him to a greater extent. We get the buzz from working with great players and Gareth has developed into a great player, so I couldn't be happier."

Spurs are currently fifth in the Premier League table, one point behind Chelsea.
